Hello from The AI Night,
Today in AI:
OpenAI Launches Personal Finance Inside ChatGPT
xAI Launches Grok Build Terminal Coding Agent
Anthropic Launches Claude for Small Business
Here's the deal: OpenAI launched a personal finance feature inside ChatGPT that lets users link bank accounts, credit cards, and investment portfolios. It's rolling out to Pro users in the U.S. on web and iOS, with Plus access planned next.
The Breakdown:
Users can connect accounts from over 12,000 financial institutions through Plaid, with Intuit support coming soon.
A dashboard displays portfolio performance, spending by category, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.
ChatGPT stores "financial memories" so goals, debts, and plans persist across conversations.
The feature defaults to GPT-5.5 Thinking. GPT-5.5 Pro scored 82.5/100 on OpenAI's internal finance benchmark.
ChatGPT reads balances and transactions but cannot see full account numbers or make account changes.
Intuit partnership will enable actions like credit card applications and tax estimates inside ChatGPT.
The bigger picture: Mint shut down and no budgeting app since has kept users past week two. OpenAI is betting people who already talk to ChatGPT daily won't need a separate finance app if it can see their accounts. Two hundred million users already asking money questions is distribution no fintech startup can build. The habit already exists. OpenAI just attached a bank feed to it.
Here's the deal: xAI released Grok Build in early beta, a CLI coding agent for SuperGrok Heavy subscribers. It installs with a single curl command and targets professional software engineering workflows.
The Breakdown:
Plan mode lets developers review and approve step-by-step execution plans before any code changes are made.
Subagents run tasks in parallel with deep worktree integrations, each operating in its own isolated worktree.
The CLI auto-detects existing AGENTS.md files, plugins, hooks, skills, and MCP servers in your repo.
A plugin marketplace provides installable tools with exposed skills and slash commands.
Headless mode (-p) supports scripting and automation with full ACP compatibility for custom agent orchestration.
The bigger picture: Claude Code, Cursor, and Gemini CLI all run one agent at a time. Grok Build launches multiple agents across isolated worktrees simultaneously. That is a different architecture, not a feature increment. But serious engineers are the hardest users to switch. xAI has to prove parallel execution matters enough to break habits developers have been building for over a year.
Here's the deal: Anthropic released Claude for Small Business, a toggle install through Claude Cowork that connects Claude to QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, and Docusign. It targets small business owners who represent 44% of U.S. GDP but have lagged in AI adoption.
The Breakdown:
Ships with 15 agentic workflows across finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service, plus 15 task-specific skills.
Users approve every action before anything sends, posts, or pays. Existing tool permissions carry over.
PayPal handles settlements and invoicing; QuickBooks covers payroll planning and monthly close; HubSpot runs lead triage and campaigns.
Anthropic partnered with PayPal on a free AI Fluency course taught by small business owners.
A 10-city SMB tour starts May 14 in Chicago with hands-on workshops and a free month of Claude Max per attendee.
The bigger picture: Every AI company sells to developers or enterprises. Anthropic is showing up in person at small business workshops in ten cities. That is not a product launch. It is a ground game. Forty-four percent of U.S. GDP runs through businesses that still do payroll in spreadsheets. The company that teaches them AI first owns that relationship permanently.
Ship Docs Your Team Is Actually Proud Of
Mintlify helps you create fast, beautiful docs that developers actually enjoy using. Write in markdown, sync with your repo, and deploy in minutes. Built-in components handle search, navigation, API references, and interactive examples out of the box, so you can focus on clear content instead of custom infrastructure.
Automatic versioning, analytics, and AI powered search make it easy to scale as your product grows. Your docs stay accurate automatically with AI-powered workflows with every pull request.
Whether you're a dev, technical writer, part of devrel, and beyond, Mintlify fits into the way you already work and helps your documentation keep pace with your product.
What else you need to know:
Zed now lets developers use their ChatGPT subscription directly in its AI agent, matching Codex rate limits, while also supporting ACP, Codex CLI, and API key access.
Anthropic reset all 5-hour and weekly rate limits for Claude users, giving everyone a fresh allocation to close out the week with full access to the model.
Zero, a new systems programming language designed for AI agents, ships with JSON diagnostics, explicit capabilities, and typed safe fixes so agents can write and repair code more reliably.
xAI published its May 15 update to X's open-source For You algorithm on GitHub, adding a runnable end-to-end inference pipeline, a downloadable pre-trained mini Phoenix model, and a new content-understanding module.
GitHub launched a beta certification for agentic AI developers, testing expertise in deploying, governing, and orchestrating AI agents within production SDLC workflows for $165 through Pearson Vue.
That’s it for today’s edition of The AI Night.
Our goal is to cut through the noise, surface what actually changed, and explain why it matters.
